A Love That Never Stops Growing • A Rose for the Long, Strange Trip
Celebrating 60 Years of Music, Community, Adventure & Roses
Some roses are more than flowers—they become symbols. Created in celebration of the Grateful Dead's 60th anniversary, the Grateful Dead Rose is a brilliant red Hybrid Tea made for gardeners, collectors, and Deadheads alike.
With vivid 4–5 inch blooms, classic exhibition form, long stems, and a strong rose-citrus fragrance, this remarkable rose feels right at home among the stories, memories, and adventures that have followed the music for generations. Its brilliant red petals bring to mind the beloved imagery found throughout the Grateful Dead universe—from the beauty of Sugar Magnolia to the colorful spirit of Scarlet Begonias, the journey of Truckin', and the enduring connection celebrated in Ripple.
The Grateful Dead Rose isn't simply a plant—it's a living tribute to a community built on creativity, friendship, music, and shared experiences. Like the songs that continue to find new listeners decade after decade, this rose returns each season with fresh blooms, creating new memories while honoring the ones that came before.
Whether you've been following the music since the Fillmore days or you're just discovering your own path, the Grateful Dead Rose offers a beautiful way to celebrate a legacy that continues to inspire. Plant it in a rose garden, cutting garden, mixed border, or a special place where its glowing red blooms can remind you that some things never stop growing.
Going Where the Wind Goes, Blooming Like a Red Rose
For decades, the rose has been one of the Grateful Dead's most enduring icons—appearing in album artwork, concert posters, backstage passes, tickets, and memorabilia collected by generations of fans. The rose became far more than a flower. It came to symbolize beauty, transformation, connection, and the enduring spirit of the Grateful Dead community.
This extraordinary rose carries that legacy into the garden. As the music continues to inspire new generations, the Grateful Dead Rose blooms as a living tribute to the band's history and the community that helped make it timeless.
In a heartfelt note, Wendy Weir shared that the red rose has become one of the most enduring symbols of the Grateful Dead—appearing in songs, artwork, merchandise, posters, backstage passes, and tickets throughout the band's remarkable history.
It has been 60 years since my brother, Bob Weir, and the other band members formed the Grateful Dead. From the beginning, they had a passion for music, creative expression and adventure…and the red rose was one of their symbols: inspiring lyrics in their songs, illustrated on album covers, printed on merchandise, back stage passes and tickets.
Over time, the red rose has become one of their most enduring icons. When fans see the image of a red rose, they think of the Grateful Dead. It is a symbol, not only of the band, but of the larger Grateful Dead Family and community.
Back in 2022, I helped to initiate the Grateful Dead Rose project. I have always loved roses and felt that a live red rose would be a wonderful tribute to the Dead for their 60th anniversary. Having a rose named after the band was, like so many things with the Grateful Dead, a first. There are roses named after celebrities, but this is the first band.
This beautiful red rose is also a living symbol of their legacy. As the band members live on in their music, so the symbol of the Grateful Dead lives on in this rose. Enjoy!
