This is the rare first edition of Corgi's Comics series from 1969. Although he had been a much-loved and cheerful character in Enid Blyton's Noddy stories for many years, Golly was the subject one of the first examples of political correctness in the United Kingdom. Objections were raised to his black face and so, shortly afterwards, a different Golly was put in the back with a grey face. The grey face lasted a bit longer but eventually the whole idea of Golly having to be stuffed in the boot was still not acceptable and another friend, Mr Tubby Bear, gets the job instead.

Now, of course, we'd have problems with calling him Tubby, no doubt! Eventually Noddy just gets to drive the car on his own when it is issued in 1972 as number 804.

This is, therefore, a very rare find. The first, in fact, that I have seen available for many years. The model is in very good condition with both headlights still in place - most unusual for one that has actually been played with! The screen is completely unmarked, as is the yellow body paintwork. the red wheel arches have a few chips and there is some loss of chrome on the bumpers and radiator surround.

The wheels are the first 8-spoke cast variety with a plain wheel as the spare. Noddy still has his bell on the top of his hat, too. Another item that often breaks off.

This is a completely original and valuable model that is likely to be missing from most collections. This is supplied in an excellent reproduction box.
