The Stridsvagn 103, or S-tank, is a unique AFV featuring a 105mm Bofors main gun that was fitted in place. Gun traverse was achieved by rotating the vehicle in place and elevation/Depression by the height adjustable suspension. This provided a very low profile when hull down without sacrificing gun depression or crew conditions unlike the T-62. The gun was fitted with an auto-loader allowing for a rate of fire of 1 round every 3 seconds.

It was fully amphibious and was the first tank fitted with a gas turbine engine. The tank could be driven backwards easily as the third crewmember sat facing the rear with a complete set of driver controls. Making the S-tank easier to fall back compared to the similar designs of assault guns of WW2.
