Roberts, Revival Literature no. 4641. No. 6212 in Roberts, Whitefield in Print.

James Robe (1688-1753), b. Cumbernauld, Scotland. “After study at Glasgow University he was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Linlithgow in 1709. In 1713 he was called to Kilsyth and ordained pastor of the Presbyterian Church there. It was in 1740 that the amazing work of grace called the Great Awakening began in Kilsyth and soon thereafter spread to Cambuslang and other parts. The controversy which arose, especially with the Associate Presbytery, gave rise to Robe’s publications written in defence of the work of God. He continued faithful in his ministry there until called by death on May 26, 1753.” – Roberts, Whitefield in Print, p. 543.
