Birmingham’s Wielded Steel isn’t looking to make friends with their upcoming 2026 release, Sins of Your Domain (SoYD), a violent fusion of death metal and hardcore.

“I’ve got a lot of feelings when it comes to the word deathcore,” said vocalist Jesse Clark. “It’s used to describe every stadium band that tries to tune their guitar the lowest and have the longest breakdown possible.” But the group doesn’t like that sound, opting for a violent fusion of death metal and hardcore, citing bands like Internal Bleeding or Irate as inspiration.

“That sound has evolved over time,” added drummer Cyrus Patel. “We started out somewhere between death metal and hardcore, but we’ve been quietly adding more and more death metal influences as we’ve progressed.”

That’s more than obvious on SoYD. The record opens with an ominous meditation on T.S. Eliot’s Hollow Men, a haunted chant of “this is the way the world ends ” that gives way to a sonic assault over a crushing rhythm.

Guitarist Michael Carpenter cranks the volume up on tracks like “In The Line of Fire (ft. No Cure)” and “Sins of Your Domain (ft. Corpse Pile)”, each featuring stripped down technical riffs that mutate into intricate rhythms that don't let up.

“In the Line of Fire is just about using the people you hate for target practice,” explained Clark. “Blaythe of No Cure is featured and he fit really well with the metallic vibe of this song. His energy was perfectly suited for the big build up in the middle of the track.”

“Perpetual Hell (ft. Rejoice)” leads with a groovy, subtle bassline from bassist CJ Moore, before leading the rest of the band into a tormented, heavy breakdown, while “Die By The Steel (ft. Brass Tongue)” gives the hardcore purists some meaty two-steps to chew on.

“Perpetual Hell is about battling your self destructive tendencies and how overwhelming that can feel,” Clark said. “We got Nate from Rejoice on this one and he absolutely destroyed this feature with his own spin on the themes.”

Overall, there isn’t an ounce of fat on SoYD. Unbridled energy aside, Clark and Patel attribute that to being a band from Birmingham.

“Alabama, specifically Birmingham and Huntsville, has always had a very underrated pocket of aggressive music,” explained Clark. “I’ve been going to shows since I was 13, and while there are always waves of popularity that come through, the core audience here is tight.”

“My parents immigrated here from Mumbai,” added Patel. “I was always too Indian for the White kids, and too White for the Indian kids. So for me, the Alabama scene has always been about acceptance.”

SoYD is more than just a reconstruction of the genre’s roots—it’s the result of years of hard work, baked by the hot Birmingham sun.

“Playing music is the only thing we’ve ever wanted to do,” said Clark. “It's the only thing that we’re kind of good at. To have the chance to put out a record like this for everyone to hear…it’s a dream we’ve always had. And now it’s become reality.”
