Ito Shika (Wife to Gekko) pots are decidedly rare, this one conveys a light hearted spirit with it's simple but attractive geometric design. Despite that simplicity, the throwing has been done with great care and precision, also glazed underneath, the result is a fine piece.
Ito Shika - Born 1942, real name Ito Machiyo, wife of Tsukika Ito (Gekko), learnt pottery from her father-in-law, Tankyo and began making small bowls in 1974. Her style is powerful yet delicate, she primarily uses the potters wheel, but also makes nanban and fine glazed pieces. Very rare to find her works.
