When I was seven, my family brought home two chickens, Penny and Lulubell. Me and Penny were besties. I would dig up worms for her and trained her to come to me when I knelt down. We had a very special connection. Lulubell, on the other hand, turned out to be Lulubill when he "cockadoodledoo'd" on Thanksgiving morning. Living within Portland city limits, our neighbors didn't love it, so he moved to a farm in the country. But I miss him daily.
