The ESG-102B is ThroBak's take on the late P.A.F. and early Pat. # pickups of the early 1960s — specifically the spec found in vintage ES-335s and SGs from that era. Copied directly from a 1964 SG, these humbuckers nail the combination that made those pickups so distinct: average 7.5k resistance, short A5 bridge magnet, and short A2 neck magnet. That pairing is what gives late-era P.A.Fs their character — a little more snarl and presence in the bridge, and that open, woody depth in the neck that thinner-sounding replicas never quite capture.
Every set is wound on a vintage Leesona 102B winder — the same type of machine used on the Gibson factory floor in Kalamazoo. That's not a marketing claim. It's the reason the scatter-winding pattern, the feel, and the response are as close to the real thing as anything being made today.
If you're building or restoring an early-60s ES or SG-style guitar and want period-correct pickups rather than a modern approximation, the ESG-102B is the right call.
