An EC meter (Electrical Conductivity meter) is a device used to measure how well a liquid conducts electricity. This conductivity indicates the amount of dissolved salts or nutrients in the solution. In simple terms, the higher the EC reading, the more nutrients are present in the water.
EC meters are widely used in hydroponics, agriculture, and water quality testing. In hydroponic systems, they help growers monitor and maintain the correct nutrient levels for optimal plant growth. If the EC is too high, plants can suffer from nutrient burn; if it’s too low, they may not receive enough nutrients to grow properly.
The meter works by passing a small electrical current through the solution using two electrodes. It then measures how easily the current flows and displays the result as an EC value, usually in units like milliSiemens per centimeter (mS/cm) or microsiemens (µS/cm).
Overall, an EC meter is an essential tool for ensuring balanced nutrient solutions, helping plants grow healthier, faster, and more efficiently.
