Each of the 5 asymmetric blocks in Defcon 1 has its own strengths and weaknesses, via its own Technology Tree, Mission and Objective Cards, and even a scalable pool of Units. Each player has Mission cards in their hands and will receive rewards upon fulfilling each of them, bringing them closer to victory.

As the Defcon level decreases depending on the players' actions, new strategic options will become available, such as building nuclear bombs. There is also a Space Race that gives you the opportunity to earn Influence and add new Space Technologies to your Technology tree.
