The game leader gives hints by showing new cards. The game leader may only indicate what his played card has in common with the cards that the guessers must remove. The game leader is not allowed to talk during the game. Then you designate characters and remove the cards that you think are incorrect. If you take a hint the wrong way and accidentally point out the right character, you're out.

The rules also contain a variant for advanced players in which the game leader may also play his card vertically to indicate that the character played is different from the characters to be removed. This makes it more challenging for the guessers to interpret the tips correctly, but makes the game a little easier to win.
