This is the first model Tamiya released on the new "Group C" chassis. The body is from the famous Mercedes C11 Group C racing cars and the chassis is a "down to business" plastic bathtub chassis where the wheelbase is variable.

This model, with the C11 body, was later reissued, twice, as model number 58351.

The Group C chassis cars have, in spite having same part number, different colour on the A-parts tree. There are black, blue, green and red A-parts trees. The C11's were all issued with black A-parts. Like all the vintage Group C models, the body shell came unpainted in the kit.

The Group C C11 was reissued in 2005 then with pre-painted body.
