I believe this basket is Makah/Nootka though possibly Tsimshian (clearly Pacific NW Coast Native), woven of cedar bark and grass. And based on the construction, as well as the patina, I believe late 19th or very early 20th century. I much more often come across examples of lidded baskets, with plaited cedar bark rims and bases, but this is a rarer, and very lovely open one, with fully twined base, exemplifying, as I understand it, the more labor intensive construction indicative of early examples. With a subtle banded pattern, but much more now about its glorious honey color.
6 3/8" in diameter x 2 1/2" t. Very good condition, holding its shape very well. No losses, gorgeous patina.
