New York: The Renaissance Society at The University of Chicago, 1997. Edition of 1000. Hardcover, Unpaginated, 9 x 12 inches.
Very Good. Front cover shows wear to printing of letters along top and right side. Title and author lettering similarly faded on spine. Rear cover clean with minor rubbing. Gentle curl to bottom right corner. Inside pages very bright, clean, and sharp.
Conceived in 1997, the same year she was awarded a MacArthur Fellowship, Walker's Presenting Negro Scenes Drawn Upon My Passage shows her "iconic black cut-outs that depict scenes of antebellum horror" in stark fashion. Presented as a "visual novella", the text is an exemplary illustration of Walker's ability to force the viewer to confront issues of race and desire within the context of slavery. An excellent copy of a particularly scarce publication.
