It is not trying to behave like a wide slow jig; the point is to cast far, cut cleanly through wind, and keep a tight baitfish silhouette when you are covering water from the shore.

The slim body matters because it gives you two useful ways to fish it.

Burn it back and it tracks like a fleeing small baitfish, which is good when fish are chasing.

Let it drop on a semi-slack line and the jig flashes on the fall, which is where flatfish, trevally and other ambush predators often eat it.

Use a steady retrieve when you are searching a long stretch of beach, then mix in short lifts and controlled drops once you feel bottom, bait, or current changes.
