Fundacion Santiago presents a comprehensive edition of the La Solidaridad, the propagandists' major mouthpiece during the struggle for recognition and acceptance of the Philippines by Spain. It is in the La Solidaridad that we see the emergence of what we call Filipino: the articulation and the moulding of the Filipino consciousness of self and nation as a unity distinct from what they understood to be "Mother Spain." From the insistence of assimilation to the
rereading of Philippine culture and society, we glean how the propagandists came to articulate the key ideas that continue to define the struggle for national pride and unity to the present day.
