Chardonnay is seen as the winemaker's blank canvas - with it taking the character of the environment in which it is grown and the artistic flair or tweaks applied by the creative genius in the winery. In this case, the legendary New Zealand winemaker, Matt Thomas, uses his creative flair and sun-kissed Veronese Chardonnay grapes to create a crisp, refreshing and melon fresh Chardonnay. Very subtle oak aging has been applied in this case, giving the wine a little bit of texture and creaminess without heavy vanilla or butterscotch flavour. This would definitely spin your windmill if you prefer lighter and less oaky styles of chardonnay.
