HMS Atherstone (M38) was a Hunt-class mine countermeasures vessel built for the Royal Navy and commissioned in 1987. Named after the Leicestershire town of Atherstone, she was designed for both minehunting and minesweeping duties. During her service she undertook deployments in the Persian Gulf, Mediterranean and other operational areas, helping to protect shipping routes and maintain maritime security. In 2005, HMS Atherstone was involved in operations around Iraq, supporting coalition activities. After around three decades of service, she was decommissioned in 2017, ending a long career before later being offered for disposal and sale.
