Product Description: This is a strand of Etched Carnelian Beads.
Note: As this is an antique item, it may have scratches, cracks, or chips.
Period: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
Originating from the Indus Valley Civilization, these carnelian beads are etched with patterns using a natron solution derived from plants, and then fired at low temperatures of 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they are also found in archaeological sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that they were crafted in the Indus Valley and transported via land and sea routes.
