Diego Pinera
Description:
This is the second album by Uruguayan, Berlin-based drummer Diego Pinera, a native of Montevideo, Havana, and Boston (Berklee), who says it is a compilation of all the sounds and rhythms he has worked with over the past decade, This is the second ACT album by Diego Pinera, a drummer who spent his student days in Leipzig and now lives and works in Berlin. In addition to "Reflexiones," a work featuring Tony Lakatosh, he released the saxophone trio work "My Picture" with Mark Turner (ts) and Ben Street (b) in 2016, which garnered much attention. Currently working with artists from Greece and Bulgaria, who are also based in Berlin, he is expanding his musical horizons, while this is a challenging work with NYC and international artists such as Donny McCaslin, Ben Monder, and Scott Corey.Of the 10 songs, almost all are originals, except for the Monk number at the end, which is in odd time signatures. All of the songs are complex rhythmic interludes, but they also have a Latin lilt to them. However, the brightness of the Latin rhythms mixed with the exquisite pop motifs give the work a unique contemporary sound rather than an esoteric one. The quartet sound of the 2020's, with a technical quartet of co-starring members!
