First introduced in 1942 and produced through 1945, the 10617 was a 9-jewel OG grade watch which was considered “enlisted grade” due to the lower jeweled movement. They were water resistant, radium painted, nickel plated, non-hacking field watches intended to be used across various jobs across the US Army, but were also issued to the US Navy and Marine Corps for those fighting units which required field watches. Although considered non-hacking workhorse watches, the Ordnance Department still maintained rigid specifications through the War Department for all timepieces. Models such as the 10617 and 10609 were set forth under specifications such as FXS-797, which required precise timekeeping and durability for all service personnel.
Timeworn’s 10609 features an expertly replicated Keystone style nickel plated brass case, tapered crown, fire-blued hands, color-matched matte finish paint, hand traced dial, and 21-jewel hand-wound Seagull movement of the 1700 small seconds series.
Although originals were historically painted with radioactive radium material, Timeworn has matched that same original color with 25 layers of Swiss Super-LumiNova for the same original glow and dial color.
Like the originals once were, ours are water-resistant to 30 meters.
