Brahms (1833-1897)
Description:
Several albums of the 1962 Beethoven: Piano Concerto No. 3, performed by Knappertsbusch and Geza Anda, have been released. The two performers, Geza Anda, 41 years old at the time, plays the piano with rich nuances, and Knappertsbusch, 74 years old, maintains his firm determination while confronting him, giving a heated performance that seems like sparks are flying. The following piece, "Brahms: Symphony No. 3," is known as Knappertsbusch's favorite piece, and is highly acclaimed for its leisurely tempo and the emotion that oozes from its calm expression. Weber's Overture to "Euliante," played at the beginning of the concert, also showed a calm appearance. The following year (1963), the Haydn Variations were performed at an extremely slow and leisurely tempo, and the beauty of not only the theme but also each variation was fully appreciated in this masterful performance.~Naxos Japan - Reissued from the collection of the Cologne Broadcasting Society.
