Description:
Until his death in 2016, Danish composer Guðmonsen-Holmgren remained an icon of contemporary Scandinavian music and a tremendous influence on younger generations such as A.G. Madsen, the emerging composer born in 1984 whose work is included here. With its simple, minimalist phrasing, relentlessly thrown ferocious sounds and everyday noises alternating with quietness, Guðmonsen-Holmgren's works, with their distinctive style and precise, skilled craftsmanship, were a driving force in Nordic music of the 20th and 21st centuries. A.G. Madsen, on the other hand, writes music that is both poetic and evokes the ghosts of a distant Romantic era, with a style that seems to construct a microscopic world using sparse texts and limited materials. Here we present the world of concertante (concerto symphony) music by these two composers, performed by C. Ostrand, a leading Danish violinist, P. Salo on piano, and the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Naxos Japan
