Mahler (1860-1911)
Description:
In the great tradition of Mahler performances, the Concertgebouw Orchestra and Gatti's video of Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4 are finally available! Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 1 & 4 performed by Gatti and the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The Concertgebouw Orchestra, which Mahler himself conducted and had a close relationship with, has a special tradition of performing Mahler, and after Mengelberg, all successive chief conductors, including Haitink, Chailly, and Jansons, have also recorded the complete works of the composer. Gatti's style, which is oriented towards dense detail and unconventional dramatic development, marks a new page in the tradition of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. Gatti's sensitive sensibility and solid construction skills are of course evident, but he also fully expresses the beauty of the orchestra with its breathtaking pianissimo, shimmering brass, and lustrous strings. This is Mahler filled with unprecedented originality. The soloist in the fourth movement of No. 1 is soprano Julia Kreiter. Although it is an important part of the impression of the piece, the "heavenly life" is heard in Kreiter's clear and beautiful voice in high spirits. King International
